Q: Can I have these reins with a horse shoe buckle at bit end instead of kimberley knots.

A: Hi Lynette
Thanks you for your query.
We can make harness leather reins with horseshoe buckles and a leather keep. Here are a few points to consider:
* The cost of a set of harness leather reins with horseshoe buckles and a leather keep would be $105.00. (This is a custom made product, and because the reins would need a leather keep to hold the strap down, the buckle and keep would need to be handstitched on.)
* We would need to go to 3/4" reins, rather than 5/8", to accommodate a horseshoe buckle and leather keep.
* A more effective (and cheaper) buckle option would be bridle buckles. A set of 3/4" reins with bridle buckles would cost $88.00, or $83.00 for 5/8". The reason bridle buckles are more effective is that they have two ends which firmly hold the strap down. A horseshoe buckle only has a single end which would not hold the strap as firmly in place, even with a leather keep (but it should be okay). For a review of 3/4" leather reins with bridle buckles see http://www.kentsaddlery.com.au/products/reins/top-quality-harness-leather-reins-with-kimberley-knots-34-19mm
I hope this has been of assistance.
Regards
Leah
