 Questions & Answers
Q: I ride a Morgan and she is quite short backed. Generally I will use 2 saddle blankets in order to avoid soft tissue damage. Would I still need to use 2 saddle blankets if I was to use the Supa-Cool Neoprene Saddle Pad?

Thanks, Chris

A: Dear Chris

Thank you for your enquiry.

I checked our records, and it doesn't seem that you've bought one of our saddles, so I am assuming that your saddle is another brand(?). Please let us know if it is one of our saddles.

To give you an idea of whether or not it will be sufficient for your needs, the thickness of the neoprene saddle pad is approximately 15mm.

It is really hard to give a universal recommendation about padding horses. Really need to see the horse, and the saddle on the horse, etc.

However, we would never recommend using two saddle blankets or pads - if two blankets/pads are needed it is more than likely an indication that the saddle is not a good fit for the horse. If a saddle has been custom made for the horse (and rider) there should be no need for thick padding.

When advising customers on adapting a saddle to suit a variety of horses we advise that placing heavy pads under the saddle changes the shape of the horse so we need to consider if they are necessary for each individual horse. We recommend using a light saddle cloth to gauge the fit of the saddle. If the saddle fits well, leave it at that, if not, use a pad if necessary to fill the horse out. If there is still an issue when a pad is being used, we would suggest that the problem lies in a saddle which is not the right shape for the horse. Comfort and fit for the horse is about
saddle shape, not about softness.

Hope this helps. Please feel free to phone me on free call 1800 651 535 if you would like to talk about it further.

Regards Lyle
